President's Message

Spring greetings to you all

I expect you all have heard of the importance of location: while I was closing up the truck and gathering gear, the eager kid was already on the water, way down there—

It was looking like a beautiful day, so I picked my way down the “cliffs” and was greeted by gusts, whitecaps, and one shivering, and suddenly less eager grandson. Meanwhile, a few miles down canyon, some more of the family were having a different experience:

Obviously, a the right guide is also important.

Upcoming news : Our May membership meeting, the last formal program for the season, is on the 10th; look forward to a presentation by Mike Stanton and Jim Gulu regarding the smallmouth fishing pleasure to be found on the Weiser and other local waters. Also, it the year-end raffle time, with donated prizes up for grabs, as well as the collection of member-tied flys that have been collecting on the foam fish. (If you have an item to donate, it’s not too late to get it to Mike).

There are no fly tying sessions scheduled for this month, or the rest of summer, and the general meetings on 2nd Tuesdays of June and July will be informal gatherings at the usual location. If you would like some informal casting instruction, contact me so we can hook you up. (Yaah, I know, “He who would pun would pick a pocket”—-so, elect someone else.)

The annual Weiser Community Pond cleanup day, held in conjunction with the city staff and several other local organizations, is scheduled for June 2nd (Friday). There will be lots of work, fun and food.

The deadline for application for the Al Sillonis Memorial scholarship to the ICOA youth camp is fast approaching; it’s the club’s responsibility to identify the recipient, so if you know a worthy 10-12 year old who wants the experience, contact Mark Sands or myself, to start that process.

Picnic in August? Yep—-on the evening of the 8th, at the Memorial Park covered table area.

If you are planning a local fishing expedition, and want some company, send an email to Dick with the info, so he can “publish” it on club membership group email. Guide fees will have to be hashed out privately (“That’s a joke, son”)

Have fun—Lord willing, I’m going to Ash Crik.
